FAQs

What do I need to know about the insurance of my rental car?

Rental companies work with collision insurance, passengers insurance and third party insurance. These are the most frequent ones:

  • LDW and CDW: exempt the driver from economic liability for damages caused on the vehicle due to an accident. Also against theft and failure of the vehicle
  • ALI: coverage on material and personal damages caused by third parties
  • PAI: coverage on damages, medical fees, road assistance and rescues.

Some of these insurance plans are optional and you may hire them in our web o directly at the front desk of the rental company.

IMPORTANT: All prices offered in BookingCars include the required and necessary protection to drive. The purchase of additional insurance coverage is not required to pick up the vehicle, it is the customer’s decision.
The voucher describes the insurance included in the service package purchased. At the time of pick-up, check the conditions and amount paid before signing the rental agreement.
In case something unexpected occurs during the use of the vehicle, the holder of the reservation must follow the procedure set forth by the rental company, that is submit the accident report and fill in the accident form at the company office within 24 hours, among other things.

What does “co-insurance” or “deductible” mean?

It is the amount of money the booking’s holder must pay, according to what the rental agreement outlines, in case it is necessary to use the insurance due to damages caused to the rental vehicle.

What are the limits of co-insurance or deductible?

The limits vary depending on the rental company, type of insurance hired and the vehicle’s category. It is important to check the insurance coverage and amounts before signing the rental agreement.

What kind of protection can I hire at the rental office?

The different rental companies offer many kinds of additional coverage, the extension of the partial coverage for collision (SCDW) being the most common.

Based on the company, the SCDW may:

  • Cover parts of the vehicle not covered by the Partial Coverage for Collision (like windows or tires)
  • Reduce the deductible (the maximum amount that the company would be responsible for in case of damages to parts covered by the basic protection of the vehicle)
  • Set the deductible on zero (or eliminate it), so it is not necessary to leave a deposit at pick-up or pay for possible damages on parts covered by said protection
Which documents do I have to present when picking up the vehicle?
  • Printed voucher
  • Driver’s license
  • Passport or ID
  • International credit card in the name of the holder of the reservation and with enough limit for the security deposit
May another person drive instead of me?

Only if you’ve paid for an “Additional driver”. Otherwise, the only one authorized to drive is the holder of the reservation

Hey, many of our fees include an additional driver for free!
